UNION AFFILIATIONS

Strata Productions has been affiliated with various trade unions and performance rights organizations over the course of its 24-year history. Below is a brief description of a few of our union partners and their function within the entertainment industry.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) represents creators who write scripted series, features, news programs and other content. The WGA is a generic term for both the Writers Guild of America, East and the Writers Guild of America, West. Founded in 1933, the Guild negotiates & administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) is an entertainment guild that represents the interests of film and television directors in the United States motion picture industry and abroad. Founded as the Screen Directors Guild in 1936, the group merged with the Radio and Television Directors Guild in 1960 to become the modern Directors Guild of America.

The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is an American labor union formed in 2012 by the merger of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. It represents approximately 160,000 media professionals worldwide.

The International Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees (IATSE) is a labor union representing over 168,000 technicians, artisans & craftspersons in the entertainment industry, including live theatre, motion picture and television production, broadcast and trade shows in the United States, its territories, and Canada.

The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) is an American not-for-profit performance-rights organization (PRO) that licenses public performance rights of its members' musical works to venues, broadcasters & digital streaming services. ASCAP collects licensing fees from users of music created by ASCAP members.

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a performance rights organization that collects blanket license fees from businesses that use music, entitling them to play or sync any songs from BMI's repertoire of over 22.4 million musical works. BMI distributes the money to songwriters, composers & music publishers as royalties.
